The municipal theater is the symbol of Émile Loubet's golden age.
Description
A neoclassical Italian-style theater, its orientation facing the Mistral, outside the city walls, its aesthetics and interior layout were much criticized at the time - 1882 to 1885. And yet, on February 11, 1885, Montilians flocked to the theater's entrance for the inaugural performance: a charity event.
Its embellishment continued as part of the development of the Allées provençales, then with the installation of the fountain on the slab of the underground parking lot.
After decades of loyal service, the theater has become unfit for the public, and has welcomed some of the greatest artists of its time. It is currently closed to the public, on stand-by as it undergoes renovation work.
