The last remaining evidence of the fortified town...
Description
Built between 1762 and 1763 to plans by M. Paulmier de la Tour, the Porte Saint Martin is the last remaining example of the old gates from the period when Montélimar was still surrounded by ramparts.
Built of ashlar from Cruas and Puygiron, the upper part is decorated with oak and palm leaves, with a cartouche in the center, once bearing the coat of arms of the Dauphin. The two windows (doors on either side) were added to the original construction in 1849-50.
